Biryani is a flavorful rice dish that is typically made with spices, rice, and meat or vegetables. There are many different versions of biryani, but here is a basic recipe that you can use as a starting point:
Ingredients:
11/2 cups basmati rice
3 cups water
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 onion, diced
1 pound chicken, beef, or lamb, cut into small pieces
2 teaspoons garam masala
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup frozen peas
1/2 cup yogurt
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Instructions:
1. Rinse the rice in a fine mesh strainer and then add it to a saucepan with the water. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for about 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed.
2. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until it is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
3. Add the chicken (or beef or lamb) to the skillet and cook until it is no longer pink.
4. Add the garam masala, cumin, turmeric, chili powder, and salt to the skillet and stir to coat the meat.
5. Add the frozen peas to the skillet and stir to combine.
6. Stir in the cooked rice and the yogurt.
7. Sprinkle the cilantro over the top of the biryani.
Serve the biryani hot.
